more of the day

Most of my evenings are spent at the night bazare. The empty streets begin to fill about 3pm, as motorcycles push their carts to their evening spot. Vendors then pull out items and purposefully place them on the racks and shelves inhopes of a farang with deep pockets. Everything from faux Gucci and Tiffany to t-shirts and beads. Real antigues and fake ones, buddhas and pillow cases and leather and DVD's and CD's. Akha hill tribe woman wander the streets stroking those darn wood frogs with a basket of cheap jewlery around their neck and almmost always an infant strapped to their back. This market is on our list of must do's when traveling with my company: http://www.stressescapetours.com

Today I learned moxibustion. A Chinese herb that stimulates the blood, opens gi energy and several other things I do not remember. I had my last accupuncture treatment with Dr. Roongrat. Her presence is grounding, comforting.

Som tom. I have been coming to this woman-whose name I embarassedly still do not know-for 6 years. Her papaya salad is the best in Thailand. I love sitting here watching the fine oiled machine pump out wonton soup, curries, papaya and pomelo salad, khanom jing and other unknown dishes to the shoppers of Talat Warowat. She crocheted me the red top I am wearing. Last year she made me a scarf. The generosirty of my Thai friends overwhelms me. Maeow the woman who make my silk pieces designed a gorgeous scarf for me and gave me a silk sleep sac for India. Khun Fon gave me a hand pounded hilltribe necklace. And their graciousness to help me in a multitude of ways goes beyond their role as concierge at Galare!!!!!!

the belly of Warowat market-where I eat so many meals...
